Your opportunity:

Student Housing and Residence Life (SHRL) is a vibrant, fast moving department within Student Affairs at UTM and we are looking for a thoughtful, focused Student Housing and Residence Life leader to be our Supervisor of Residence Operations. Reporting to, and working under the direction of the Assistant Director, Residence Administration, the Supervisor Residence Operations will oversee the operations and administration professional staff in their work creating a positive and supportive experience for our students and guests. With a commitment to a high level of customer service, working with others to solve problems and provide solutions and a high value on teamwork, you will provide direction and leadership. As one with a high level of focus on details, you understands the impact of operations within Student Housing and Residence Life. You value attention to detail, collaboration for implementing the best solutions and following procedural standards. You are someone who keeps pace with best practices, provincial standards and the most up to date systems such as StarRez for the purpose of reviewing and evaluating the annual Student Housing life cycle from an operations point of view. You will handle sensitive and/or confidential information so knowledge and awareness of FIPPA is mandatory. Attention to detail is also important, when organizing materials and implementing policy. At times you will be required to apply established standards when responding to emergencies.

Your responsibilities will include:
Scheduling logistics required to facility needs within residence communities
Interpreting applicable guidelines and protocols to determine policy violations
Analyzing administrative processes and procedures and recommending changes for improvement
Creating and editing a standard operating procedures manual
Updating and maintaining database records
Receiving invoices and approving payment, within signing authority, for internal trades and external contractors
Providing formal job-related training
Directing the activities of full-time professional staff in a limited area and providing feedback on performance

Qualifications / Required Skills

Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
Minimum of 4 years of professional experience working within Student Housing and Residence Life Operations or a combination of para-professional and professional experience. Good familiarity of the role Student Affairs plays on a post-secondary campus supporting students.
Experience interpreting and ensuring compliance with the Residential Tenancies Act (RTA) within Ontario.
Experience overseeing occupancy and placement for a Student Housing operations.
Experience supervising professional staff and casual staff.
Experience with facilities operations within Student Housing operations
Superior oral and written communication skills.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
Ability to interact with professional colleagues and students in a tactful, professional and diplomatic manner.
Demonstrated ability to meet different deadlines and manage competing priorities.
Demonstrated knowledge and use of StarRez, or equivalent residence system.
Ability to prioritize work independently.
Sound judgment skills to recognize situations of safety, risk or emergencies quickly and effectively.

Assets (Nonessential):
Experience and Training in Project Management or Financial Management would be an asset.
