Job Description / Duties
The University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus is seeking a Student Life Coordinator to support students’ development as scholars, people, and citizens. The SLC will be responsible for dealing with a wide variety of issues facing students, while promoting a sense of belonging and facilitating a positive and respectful community among students. In addition to regular programming duties, the SLC will get the opportunity to take on one specific operational portfolio in the Student Experience department.
The successful candidate will build inclusive, safe, and relational communities where students understand and uphold their rights and responsibilities as members; lead the design, implementation and assessment of extracurricular and co-curricular events and programming for students to enhance the student experience, and to encourage students’ personal, social, and intellectual growth and development (based on intentional and assessable learning outcomes); facilitate high-level planning, full logistical organization, and delivery of events such Ridgetown Ready, Orientation, and International Bridging; train, mentor, and advice student leaders; provide support services (namely through one-on-one meetings, to identify issues and create support plans/referrals); assist in the conduct process and respond to behaviour that is contrary to university policies and procedures, by facilitating intentional learning experiences that enhance student growth and well-being; respond to crisis and emergency situations as part of an on-call team responsible for 600 students in a way that balances care for the individual, the community, and the institution as a whole.
Qualifications / Required Skills
The Student Life Coordinator will have an Undergraduate Degree and at least three (3) years of experience: working and communicating effectively with students; supervising student staff, including hiring, training, and evaluating; promoting a living and learning environment that is conducive to student’s academic success, personal growth, and social development; dealing with conflict mediation/resolution; understanding of student development theory; and the ability to designate personal time and deal with high stress situations. In addition, they will have training in mental health, crisis management, conflict intervention, leadership development, suicide intervention, and coaching.
