Job Description / Duties
DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students and the Dean of Students the Residence Manager, Staffing, Conduct and Facilities is responsible for developing and leading the student staffing (student live-in and Residence Information Desk staff), and the student conduct functions of the residence system. They will focus on, applying a student-centered, student development, collaborative and integrated approach to supervision, training and assessment. The training of the residence student staff must encompass student affairs ethical principles and standards. The Manager will support the operational goals of the residence system through day to day support of assigned residence areas, and shared on call coverage outside of regular office hours. They will be responsible for overseeing the Residence Information Desk service, managing residence physical plant assets, collaborating with facilities and other residence service partners.
The Residence Manager, Staffing, Conduct and Facilities will:
• Develop and oversee the hiring and training of residence life and Residence Information Desk student staff.
• Design and implement learning outcomes, position standards, performance management and assessment strategies, and staff engagement initiatives.
• Manage the student staff training budget.
• Provide leadership in the development, coordination and delivery of the student behaviour management process.
• Administrate the residence community management software, records and processes.
• Ensure alignment with and knowledge of other relevant King’s policies (Student Code, Sexual Violence, Harassment, etc.), and basic legal principles relevant to student conduct issues.
• Develop effective liaison relationships, and serve as primary communication conduit, with facilities and other residence services partners to ensure high service standards for residents, clear expectations for all parties, and effective resolution of inter-departmental issues as they arise. Partners include: Physical Plant (housekeeping and maintenance), ITS and Security.
• Manage the Residence Information Desk staffing and services, including training, service standards and on call support.
• Assume assigned portion of shared responsibilities for the smooth operation of residence operations, including:
o Residence staff supervision, minor Rules of Residence issues, and day to day issues in assigned units
o Resident support and follow up in assigned units
o Afterhours, weekend, holiday on call responsibilities
o General support for arising day to day issues, and office coverage
• Develop and maintain an inventory of residence spaces, furnishings, and amenities.
• Oversee regular inspections of residence facilities; manage replacement cycle projects.
Qualifications / Required Skills
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (unless identified as preferred):
The successful candidate must:
• Have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, although a Master’s degree is preferred.
• Have a minimum of 3-5 years experience in residence life operations, or another applicable student services role
• Ability to take initiative and manage multiple initiatives throughout the academic year and in the summer planning and developmental period.
• Excellent oral and written communication, including strong presentation (public speaking), interpersonal, problem solving and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated understanding of effective staff development strategies, and principles of due process, and effective application of student development theory and learning strategies.
• Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a team environment and the ability to work effectively with staff, students, faculty and external stakeholders.
• Proficient with a wide range of technical systems and tools as a regular function of work, including content management systems, project management software, databases, residence life information systems (Erez), word processing and spreadsheet applications such as MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Requires flexibility to work beyond regular office hours for extended hours at peak operational times (eg: staff training end of August, start of residence year in September), with the expectation of some evening and weekend work, and regular on call duties on a scheduled basis (mid-August - May).
• Experience integrating culturally sensitive staff and student development, based in anti-racism, diversity, equity and inclusion practices.

Salary: SALARY RANGE: PSG 14 - $73,704 - $92,287 per annum (dependent on experience)
