Job Description / Duties

Reporting to the Director, Residence and Student Life, the Residence Life Manager directly contributes to Student Affairs’ strategic goals by nurturing students’ development through a critical and transformative time. The incumbent is responsible for creating a thriving living and learning environment for students in collaboration with institutional and community partners.

Key Responsibilities
- Collaboratively identify and foster the development of initiatives to build community (i.e. peer-led, on-campus events and residence programming) that responds to the changing needs of the student population, promotes a safe and inclusive environment and contributes to the overall Student Affairs
vision.

- Actively develop meaningful connections and familiarity with students by dining, attending events, attending meetings and being present in the individual residence communities as defined by Resident Assistant leadership areas on a daily basis.

- Work with the Director, Residence and Student Life and the Manager, Student Conduct to develop annual analyses of all incidents of conflict and student conduct in order to assess trends and identify required modifications to the Residence Code of Conduct and disciplinary practices.

- Recruit, hire, train, coach and supervise student residence life staff annually, including Residence Assistants and Residence Programming Assistants.

- Respond and give direction in dealing with any crisis/emergency situation in residence and participate in a rotational on-call emergency system.

- Participate and administer the Residence Code of Conduct in their area of responsibility, which include administration of a developmental/educational system, leading learning conversations, making appropriate decisions of responsibility and sanctioning.

Note
This is a live-in position including a meal plan. The successful candidate is provided with a fully furnished, pet-friendly apartment, including heat, lights, hot-water, internet and cable – disturbance factor applied to benefit, as a taxable benefit. This role is highly visible, works flexible hours, and is on-call via cell phone provided (not included in taxable benefit) on a rotational basis during evenings and weekends, year-round. Frequent irregular hours including extended workdays, attendance at evening and weekend meetings, programs and functions is required.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Undergraduate degree in Education or Humanities plus an additional three years of experience in a live-in residence environment with administrative responsibilities (or an equivalent combination of training and experience) is required. College diplomas or comparable professional experience will be considered. Experience implementing new restorative practice considered a strong asset.
