Reporting to the Manager, Residence Life, the Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) supports the development and implementation of the Residence Life Program including the Residence Living and Learning Curriculum with a focus on academic and co-curricular learning and individual and community development. The RLC coordinates front line issue management for residents which includes initial response, ongoing response plan and support plan coordination, reporting the issues appropriately within the department referrals, follow up and documentation.
Students living in residence are diverse in background, interests, needs and skills and the RLC leads the creation of a supportive and inclusive environment. The RLC has the opportunity to develop activities, services and supports to respond to the changing needs and interests of residents. This will be achieved through collaboration with colleagues and supervisor on the development and implementation of activities, supports and services, fostering contribution from residence students and staff, and by integrating university support services and the residence community. Responsibilities include: contributing to the selection, training, and supervision of the Residence Life Team, facilitating problem solving, referrals, addressing student conduct issues, safety awareness and safety planning, on call response, issue management and crisis & routine emergency response, committee representation, evaluation (of student staff and residence experience), student leadership and civic engagement. Integral to the success of this position is the ability to work effectively with various university departments and partners to ensure a quality residence experience for students.
The RLC is a live-in position reporting to the Manager, Residence Life. The RLC is assigned to approximately a third of the residence community at UTSC.
Qualifications / Required Skills
Education: Bachelor’s Degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience: At least three (3) years’ experience living and working in a university residence setting (combination of para-professional and professional experience is acceptable). Experience in advising and referrals, programming, conflict mediation, community management and discipline in an undergraduate residence community and proven leadership, supervisory, and problem solving skills. Demonstrated experience dealing with emergency situations, issue management and crisis response. Must have experience working with diverse student communities and have commitment to improving and enhancing the student experience in residence and at the University; must have creative and collaborative ideas for programs, policies and staff development and demonstrated experience in these areas.
Skills: Excellent organizational, communication (verbal and written), public speaking skills and training and facilitation experience. Proven ability to deal with matters of extreme sensitivity and confidentiality.
Other: Must be comfortable working in an unpredictable and often stressful environment. Must manage a complex set of competing priorities. Must be able to work independently and as part of a diverse team. Ability to exercise common sense, sound judgment, tact, discretion and diplomacy.
Additional Information
Salary: SW Pay Band 11 -- $63,448 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $81,138. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
