Job Description / Duties

he Residence Experience in the Ancillary Services is currently seeking a Full-time Sessional Residence Life Coordinator .

The primary purpose of the Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) position is to plan, implement and critically analyze the Residence Education components of Residence Services' operations. In particular, the RLC supports student success by fostering healthy and engaging student communities, connecting students with various resources and the broader campus, and holding accountable students who disrupt or undermine those efforts. The RLC is primarily responsible for Residence Education Team (RET) operations in an assigned building or area. The RLC also shares responsibility with peers for RET operations that span multiple buildings or areas.

The main priorities for the RLC are:

Identifying student needs, whether concerning one person or many, and either responding directly or escalating / referring the issue to appropriate staff

Coordinating and participating in the residence on call system so as to ensure urgent incidents receive appropriate response and attention
Upholding the Community Standards, from promoting positive behaviour to addressing alleged violations, with a focus on balancing learning opportunities, personal accountability and community well-being

Contributing to the development and assessment of priorities, plans, policies and procedures, especially by incorporating student and organizational perspectives

Managing student staff, first and foremost by ensuring they are prepared for and concentrating on the purpose and other priorities outlined above

At all times, the RLC upholds and seeks to achieve Residence Services' vision, mission and values. The RLC role models an efficient, results-oriented, critical-thinking perspective. The RLC embraces opportunities for self-improvement, responds objectively to criticism and manages ambiguity with patience. The RLC guides students, including staff and volunteers, towards appropriate resources to help them take ownership of their concerns and challenges, as opposed to solving such issues for them. The RLC champions academic and other educationally purposeful initiatives.

The RLC reports to the Supervisor, Residence Education. Due to the nature of Residence Education operations, some early morning, late evening, overnight, weekend and holiday work is required. Workloads are heavier at peak periods, especially mid-March through mid-April and mid-August through mid-September.

The RLC must live on campus in an assigned unit. The RLC is provided a taxable benefit for housing.
