Job Description / Duties

Reporting to the Director, Housing & Residence Life, the Manager, Housing Operations & Administration is responsible for providing leadership and oversight of the daily administrative operations, as well as the strategic planning for housing operations and service management with the objective to ensure students have the access and support they need to locate suitable and safe housing.

The Manager, Housing Operations & Administration will lead and manage a team that provides high quality service delivery to students living in residences at UTSC. This role will be responsible for developing, planning and implementing strategies for effective admissions and occupancy management (including move-in/out activities); recruitment and retention of residents; oversight of departmental marketing and communications; mail services and off-campus housing resources. The Manager will ensure services are in keeping with the university values and commitments, contemporary and best practices and will build and foster working relationships with campus partners to ensure residence facilities are clean, safe and maintained.

This role will also be responsible for developing long-range plans and implementing housing strategies to support students in residence; and provides on-call support and response to assist with crisis and emergency situations. The incumbent works with the Director and constituent committees and working groups in developing activities, supports and services, establishing departmental goals and objectives and the department’s long-range plan.

In consultation with the Director, the Manager, Housing Operations & Administration will also oversee the development of business processes, analysis and evaluation for the campuses residences admissions and occupancy (e.g., develop key performance indicators, provide statistics for reporting). In addition, the Manager will be considered the unit’s expert on the University’s tri-campus residence system, having sound technical knowledge of the StarRez residence management system and collaborate with other University partners to maintain and resolve issues pertaining to these systems.

The Manager, Housing Operations & Administration is a member of the Student Housing and Residence Life leadership team and must demonstrate a commitment to the University’s principles of equity, diversity and inclusion to ensure that all residence students, especially those who may face barriers, have the opportunity to thrive in their educational journey.

Qualifications / Required Skills

EDUCATION:
- University degree and/or acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience. A related Master’s degree in Business, Management, Education, Student Affairs, Communications, or Leadership would be an asset.

EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of five years professional experience working in a university residence setting.
- Progressive experience in residence operations (Strategic Planning, Housing Operations and Service Management) preferred.
- Experience managing staff, preferably in a unionized environment.
- Demonstrated experience in maintaining and compiling data (enrolment, attrition, applications, etc.).
- Experience working with residence facilities, financial and human resource policies and procedures.
