Job Description / Duties

Reporting to the Supervisor, Residence Life - Education and Leadership, the Coordinator, Residence Transition and Education supports the Residence Education and Leadership portfolio, which directly and substantially contributes to the development and operations of Residence as a Learning Environment. The Coordinator, Residence Transition and Education is a key contributor to the development and delivery of specialized programming in residences, including: student-staff training and leadership development, transition and orientation programming (including BaseCamp and Eastern Ascent), living-learning communities and programs (cohort floors), community engagement and service (Engage Edmonton), residence wide-educational initiatives (bystander training, mental health week, etc.), and population specific programming (e.g. Aboriginal and LBGTQ programming). The Coordinator, Residence Transition and Education also provides oversight for a group of student programming staff.

Duties:

Coordinates the development, delivery, and assessment of the BaseCamp first-year orientation program for over 1800 students and the Eastern Ascentand Block Party programs; this includes significant and complex management of bookings, program planning, and working with partner organizations to realize the successful event execution

Works with the Supervisor, Residence Life - Education and Leadership on the assessment and evolving goals of orientation programming and implementing their directives

Coordinates training and programming for Orientation Mentors

Coordinates the selection processes (some in partnership with the relevant student association representatives) for hiring the student staff

Responsible for coordinating the development and delivery of Student Staff Training; develops, administers, and examines assessment of outcomes for Student Staff Training

Coordinates the development and delivery of ongoing leadership and professional development opportunities for student staff and residents at large

Assists in the development and delivery of two Alternative Reading Week Service Learning opportunities for residence students

Develops and maintains relationships with community organizations in the Edmonton area

Develops and manages Engage Edmonton, a local Community Service project to facilitate opportunities for greater student participation and community impact

Supports the development of co- and extra- curricular learning opportunities for students, such as cohorts in partnership with Faculties

Oversees the living-learning theme communities in various residences (e.g. active living and wellness, volunteer and services, etc.) in collaboration with the respective Residence Coordinator

Coordinates special educational programs that address holistic student development (e.g. alcohol education, sexuality and equality, etc.)

Qualifications / Required Skills

The ideal candidate will have an undergraduate degree in Education; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered

2 years of experience in a student affairs or university residence background preferred

Demonstrated ability to form trusting, collegial and supportive relationships with students

Demonstrated understanding of student development theory, and leading student affairs and residence practices

Ability to work autonomously and make decisions concurrent with University practices and philosophy

Experience developing or working with e-learning software (Moodle, etc.) is an asset

Excellent organizational skills and the ability to coordinate large scale events

Excellent communication (respectful and professional), interpersonal, and organizational skills

Experience coordinating orientation, staff/volunteer training, and community service programs is a major asset

Experience in methodical planning and assessment

Previous supervisory experience is an asset

Salary: $50,425 to $68,486 per year
