The Community Development Coordinator is responsible for creating a supportive community within Platt’s Lane Estates (PLE), under the supervision of the Associate Director, Residence Engagement. The Community Development Coordinator will respond to identified community needs by developing, organizing and delivering social, educational, and needs-based programs for the community while promoting involvement and engagement within the community. The Community Development Coordinator will plan and facilitate programs that meet the needs of the PLE community and will ensure that community members have the necessary support, information, documentation and resources, while acting as a first point of contact for all internal and external inquiries. The Community Development Coordinator will also be responsible for coordinating and managing events related to program offerings and will assist with curriculum design, implementation, continuous improvement and expansion of PLE programming.
Qualifications / Required Skills
Education:
- Undergraduate Degree
Experience:
- 2 years’ experience providing administrative support and coordination
- Experience developing, promoting and planning curriculum and events for diverse audiences
- Experience working in a post-secondary education environment is preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of student development theory and curriculum development is preferred
- Knowledge of family and child development theory
- Familiarity with best practices for assessing, developing and implementing new business processes and procedures
- Verbal communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner, adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience, effectively present information, and conduct training sessions and workshops
- Ability to apply creativity, innovation and resourcefulness to daily work
- Capacity to support and demonstrate openness to persons of diverse backgrounds and beliefs, and to consider issues from the perspective of others
- Ability to understand customer needs and expectations and provide excellent customer service to directly and indirectly satisfy expectations
- Discretion, tact and maturity to deal with highly confidential subjects or issues
- Ability to work within a flexible schedule to accommodate the University’s events and activities
- Interpersonal skills to liaise with prospective and current students, staff and other members of the Western community
- Ability to plan and manage events of various sizes; familiarity with large scale events an asset
