Job Description / Duties
Reporting to the Student and Enrolment Services Manager (SESM), the ASSM works as part of the Student Services team which ensures the provision of a full range of student support services and programs to students.
The ASSM position takes the lead in the planning and the development of campus-wide educational and community programming and in conjunction with the Assistant Student and Enrolment Services Manager (ASESM) and the Student and Enrolment Services Manager (SESM) is responsible for the implementation of campus-wide educational and community programming designed to nurture a positive, safe, community environment that supports student growth, wellness, and development.
The ASSM has primary responsibility for facilitating student access to health and counselling services and takes a lead role in supporting student wellbeing through the provision of targeted wellness programs. The ASSM is also the primary contact for students reporting or disclosing an experience of sexual violence.
In conjunction with the ASESM, the ASSM co-supervises a staff of 3- 4 Student Life Co-ordinators (SLCs).
Working hours: 40 hours per week not inclusive of on-call schedule. Work patterns vary depending on the schedule of events and commitments, as well as the on-call schedule, which amounts to approximately 2 weeks/month. Considerable flexibility in hours of work will be expected (e.g., available for irregular hours, extended work days, on-call emergencies, and weekends).
28 days paid leave days include UK statutory (Bank) holidays and personal vacation leave. The ASSM will be required to be available at key times of the year, such as Fall, Winter and Summer Orientation, staff training and the opening and closing dates, as well as being available for the Mid Term Trip and on occasional weekends. Vacation times must be approved by the Student and Enrolment Services Manager in advance.
This is a live-in position and a partially furnished 1-bedroom apartment, with kitchen, in the residence building is provided at no expense. A full meal plan is also included at no expense and is available except during the BISC’s closure periods. Remuneration includes free Wi-Fi and in-room wired internet, as well as a TV. A TV licence must be purchased separately.
A telephone service is provided. The ASSM is responsible for all non-work charges to that phone number. The phone number will be listed in some staff manuals;
A £1,500 contribution to relocation expenses, (flight and/or moving costs) is provided. Receipts for expenditures are required.
Qualifications / Required Skills
We are looking for a dynamic individual with relevant supervisory experience, ideally in a professional Student Services/Student Affairs setting.
Applicants are expected to be educated to degree standard or equivalent and have suitable experience delivering programming in a university environment. Experience in, or familiarity with, the Canadian post-secondary sector would be an asset.
Applicants will be required to satisfactorily complete a Criminal Record check from their country of origin or an enhanced UK Disclosure and Barring Service Check.
The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the UK. Please note this position is not eligible for a Tier 2 visa and that only nationals of certain countries are eligible for a Tier 5 (Youth Mobility Scheme) visa.
