Assistant Director, Residence Administration

Department: UTM: Student Housing & Residence Life
Campus: Mississauga

Description: Working under the direction of the Director, Student Housing & Residence Life, the Assistant Director (AD), Residence Administration provides primary leadership and is responsible for managing the operations and staff of the residence administration team. Responsibilities of this position include: setting strategic direction for residence administration operations and planning, continuous improvement, implementation, evaluation and assessment, while making considerations for accessibility, equity and inclusion throughout all aspects of SHRL operations; seeking and cultivating partnerships and initiatives focused on operations, and ensuring these service and operations are in keeping with university values and commitments, contemporary practices as well as relevant best practice; overseeing the administration of the all contracts, agreements; initiating and overseeing assessment and service review projects and initiatives related to SHRL operations; and developing long range plans and implementation strategies. The incumbent works with the Director and committees in developing operational and strategic plans, supports and services, establishing departmental goals and objectives and the department’s long range plan.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualifications: Education:
University degree and/or acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience. Masters degree in Business, Management, Engineering, Education, Student Affairs, Communications, Leadership (or related) preferred.

Experience:
A minimum of five years professional experience living and working in a university residence setting. Progressive experience in serving students, overseeing operations, issues management, emergency response, conflict mediation, program development and in an undergraduate residence community. Experience managing staff, preferably in a unionized environment.

Proven leadership and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Comfort working as a member of a team composed of individuals with varying responsibilities. Ability to identify risk and use sound judgment to appropriately respond.

Experience improving and enhancing the student experience in residence and in postsecondary settings. Experience creating proposals for training, supports, services and activities. Experience effectively managing a complex set of competing priorities, issues management, and responding to emergencies is required.

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is required. Demonstrated experience in maintaining and compiling data (enrolment, attrition, applications, etc.). Proven ability to deal with sensitive information and handle situations that require professional judgement and confidentiality. Experience overseeing the development of appropriate risk management and data retention plans.

Skills:
Excellent interpersonal skills, communication (verbal and written) skills, tact and diplomacy required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (in particular Word and Excel, Powerpoint).

Mental health and suicide intervention skills training preferred.

Knowledge of residence management systems such as StarRez Residence Management System. Demonstrated experience with specific facility systems (e.g., VingCard - Persona, etc.)

Demonstrated knowledge and experience interpreting the Ontario Residential Tenancies Act (RTA) is required.

Facilities Management Designation (FMA, EFP, CPM) is an asset

Experience in Project Management required.

Other:
Experience working with residence facilities, financial and human resource policies and procedures. Comfortable working in an unpredictable and often stressful environment. Ability to interact, communicate and build partnerships with students, parents, university staff and faculty. Comfortable working in an unpredictable and often stressful environment. Must be able to work independently and work as part of a team. Demonstrated creativity is essential. Experience working with diverse student communities is also a significant asset. A high degree of initiative and self-motivation required. Ability to effectively manage, motivate and mobilize a team of administrative staff.

Salary: Pay Scale Group and Hiring Rate: PM 3 -- Broadband Salary Range: $77,470 - $129,117 -- Hiring Zone: $77,470 - $90,382
