Job Description / Duties

Your opportunity:
Reporting to the Assistant Director, Residence Life, the Community Standards Officer is responsible for overseeing the behaviour management of UTM's residence communities. The incumbent will support holistic student development in residence through Student Housing & Residence Life's Community Standards and conduct practices. The Community Standards Officer functions as a part of the Residence Life Management Team, providing guidance and support to the Community Development Coordinators in addition to leading the initiatives of a Work Study Student focused on promoting and maintaining positive student behaviour.

Your responsibilities will include:

Interpreting applicable guidelines and protocols to determine policy violations
Investigating community standard and housing policy violations
Determining appropriate disciplinary actions for breaches of community standards and/or housing policies
Applying established standards when responding to emergencies
Providing proactive care to prevent physical or emotional injury or harm
Implementing plans and process improvements for program and service activities
Assigning cases based on knowledge of staff expertise

Qualifications / Required Skills

Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
Minimum five years experience in a residential environment
Experience in individual advising, conflict mediation, program development and community standards enforcement in an undergraduate residence community
Experience responding to crisis and emergency situations in residence while on-call
Experience supervising student staff
Competent in responding to breaches of community standards and/or housing policies
Proficient in planning, facilitating, and evaluating residence policies & processes
Ability to influence staff to meet departmental goals
Familiar with student development research, literature, theories, trends & best practices
Ability to interact, communicate and build partnerships with students, parents, university staff and faculty
Excellent communications (oral and written) skills
Excellent organization and time management skills with the ability to multitask and meet strict deadlines
Effective problem solving and interpersonal skills

Salary: $74,781 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $95,634.
