Job Description / Duties

Western’s Residences are a self-funded ancillary within the Division of Housing and Ancillary Services, with annual revenues in excess of $65 million and a staff of 60 full-time and more than 200 student employees. The ten Residences are occupied by students and fully operational throughout the academic year on a 24/7 basis.

This senior leadership role provides direction to the Residence Area Managers, Residence Life Coordinators and Residence Life Staff for all on-campus residential life including the provision of a supportive educational and social environment in a safe and secure setting which promotes and supports an intellectually stimulating residence environment contributing to the growth and development of over 5,600 residents in ten residences. Emphasis is placed on leadership and community development, and the promotion of equitable approaches in all aspects of the position.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Education:
- Graduate Degree from an accredited institution in higher education administration, student affairs, counselling, or related field

Experience:
- 8 years of progressively responsible experience in a University setting
- Experience providing leadership in a complex organization.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to develop relationships and work collaboratively with diverse staff and students
- Interpersonal skills with an ability to apply tact and diplomacy when dealing with sensitive issues and a range of personalities, motives and interests
- Openness to recognize when change is necessary, and to develop, implement and lead effective change management strategies
- In-depth knowledge of the relevant health, human resources, privacy and other relevant statutory legislation
- Ability to draw on diversity of skills, backgrounds and knowledge of people to achieve effective results
- Results-oriented with an ability to handle many tasks and maintain a high level of individual and team performance
- Ability to investigate defined issues, solicit input, and suggest remedies and alternative approaches that meet the needs of the situation
- Commitment to the highest standards of excellence, integrity and ethical conduct
- Maintains direction and focus through proactive planning and organized approaches to work
- Demonstrated capacity to manage changing priorities and ambiguity in a calm and systematic manner
- Ability to clearly communicate the outcomes one is accountable for, including decision making authority and performance expectations
