 n\nBy attending in this session, participants will be able to:\n• summ
 arize core anti-oppression concepts\n• identify key theoretical framew
 orks related to anti-oppressive practice\n• discuss ways to challenge 
 oppressive practices and structures\n• identify key anti-oppression pr
 actices\n\nNo prerequisite is required, however this is the second sessi
 on in a 4-part EDI series.\n\nYou are encouraged (but not required) to a
 ttend the first session, Building a Foundation for Equity, Diversity & I
 nclusion, which is being offered during the Fall Business Meeting.\n\n 
 \n\n-- ABOUT THE PRESENTER --\n\nSavannah Sloat - Lead Coordinator, Ori
 entation, Transition & Engagement - University of Toronto\n\nSavannah (
 she/they) is Lenape and Scottish from Six Nations of the Grand River res
 erve community. Her academic research focuses on the identity politics o
 f mixed and self-identified Indigenous peoples under the Indian Act and 
 the Status system. She has worked as a student affairs and residence lif
 e professional for the past eight years, and currently supports the OACU
 HO Board of the Directors in her role as EDI Project Coordinator.\n\n \
 n\n-- ABOUT THE EDI PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SERIES --\n\nThis professio
 nal development series offers OACUHO members the opportunity to engage i
 n foundational learning related to topics of equity, diversity, and incl
 usion in our field. Members who attend all four sessions synchronously w
 ill receive a certificate of completion in April 2022.\n\nDue to the per
 vasive and systemic nature of racism, violence, and injustice toward Ind
 igenous, Black, and People of Colour in Canada, it is important that hou
 sing professionals feel effectively equipped to engage in these conversa
 tions at our institutions.\n\nThis series will provide participants with
  the opportunity to build their understanding of oppressive structures a
 nd systems; explore their own social location and identity; develop stra
 tegies to collaborate across difference; and consider practical applicat
 ion for their functional areas. This series is open to all members of th
 e association and will discuss applications for all functional areas in 
 housing.\n\nSESSION 1: Building a Foundation for Equity, Diversity & Inc
 lusion\nBy attending in this session, participants will be able to:\n•
  summarize key foundational concepts of equity, diversity, and inclusion
 \n• identify how one is affected by and participates in maintaining sy
 stems of oppression, privilege, and power by critically reflecting on on
 e’s own social location, prejudices, and biases\n• identify how to c
 ritically engage with equity, diversity, and inclusion values as part of
  a personal practice\n• discuss how to further individual learning to 
 better understand structural oppression and its impacts\n\nSESSION 2: In
 troduction to Anti-Oppressive Practice\nBy attending in this session, pa
 rticipants will be able to:\n• summarize core anti-oppression concepts
 \n• identify key theoretical frameworks related to anti-oppressive pra
 ctice\n• discuss ways to challenge oppressive practices and structures
 \n• identify key anti-oppression practices\n\nSESSION 3: Practical App
 lications for Anti-Oppression Principles\nBy attending in this session, 
 participants will be able to:\n• assess the current approaches used in
  their functional areas\n• discuss ways to apply anti-oppression princ
 iples in their functional areas\n• identify strategies for creating me
 aningful change\n• discuss the Association's Strategic Imperative for 
 Racial Justice and Indigenous Sovereignty and its relationship to anti-o
 ppressive practice\n\nSESSION 4: How to Facilitate Equity, Diversity, an
 d Inclusion Conversations\nBy attending in this session, participants wi
 ll be able to:\n• identify barriers to engaging in equity, diversity, 
 and inclusion conversations\n• identify best practices for effectively
  addressing concerns related to equity, diversity, and inclusion\n• di
 scuss facilitation techniques for engaging in effective dialogues relate
 d to equity, diversity, and inclusion\n• discuss strategies to create
